Most recliner repairs are to the failure of one of the following: A. Seat spring or spring clip breakage. B. Footrest release mechanism breaks.C. Broken rivets on the mechanism causing the unit to lean or sag, and D. Broken frame members or missing/broken screws/bolts holding the frame in place.

Gliders and swivel rockers have their own unique problems but all can be repaired even if it requires a new mechanism be installed. 

Common cable units for releasing the footrest

1. Note top "Parachute cables, one has short neck and short tail(Berkline, Creative Leather)) other has long neck with long tail (Ashley).
